"Pierre Koeing, master exponent of a Donald Judd-like form of architectural minimalism, goes to the beach. Koenig’s last built work, completed posthumously by Michael La Fetra, expert restorer of mid-century buildings"
This beachfront home, sited at the northern tip of Malibu, is significant not least because it is the last home to have been artfully designed by one of the most recognizable names in California Modernism, Pierre Koenig. The attention to detail, ocean views and gated privacy add to make this home extraordinary. Koenig himself said "the home has views that rival the Stahl House" (Case Study House #22).

The Stahl House remains one of the most iconic and photographed houses in the world. Yet, per the LA Conservancy, "he and his work went far beyond that single house, helping to define Modern architecture as we know it". Comprised of glass, steel and concrete, this Tri-level, fortified beach bluff home illustrates a connection between cool contemporary architecture, nature and ocean views. Further notable features include the retractable draw bridge to the beach, walkways to cantilevered ocean view decks, a dipping pool, fireplaces, car lift/garage, home theatre and gym. This modern beach house is undoubtedly a piece of art, and was 11 years in the making.
